On October 21, 1992, Madonna shocked the whole world. To celebrate the release of her album Erotica, the pop star, then at the height of her fame, published a book in which she boldly exposed herself and titled it, Sex. The book featured 128 pages of raw scenes with an S&M aesthetic. The scandalous artist spared no detail and gave us a full look at cunnilingus, masochism, anilingus, and masturbation. The legendary photographer Steven Meisel captured her unbridled sexual freedom, and her scandalous images enraged the already rattled Vatican, who had censored and banned the star ever since her controversial video clips in which she flouted religious conventions. Madonna's intention with this book was to break the taboos surrounding the female body and sex. With the book's release, the artist established herself as a legend in her own right.
